uru || happy to help
I'm super glad GOG.com exists, seriously. I've heard of a lot of these games, but never played them as a child because our family was more console-oriented. (I was probably too young to play anything other than Lemmings or Dr. Brain games anyway.) I like having the chance to play these games and check out what people are talking about. I just nabbed the Wing Commander series to give it a shot. Also Mark Hamill is in the games too, and I wanna see that.

I'm thinking about trying to get more recent games on GOG too. I don't know if anyone else has the same problem, but Steam can really clog up my computer sometimes. I don't have a gaming optimized laptop, so just opening Steam can be a trial for me. Games that are DRM free are such a turn on.

I really should be reformatting my hard drive, but I'm hesitant. My laptop originally came with Windows Vista installed, but I received a free upgrade to Windows 7 and used that. I don't know where I put the upgrade disk anymore, though. I'm afraid of reformatting and ending up with Vista again. That would really, really suck.

I'll have to go hunting for it again sometime.

I've never had a problem with Steam, and personally I really love it (easy-to-use categories to keep my game library neat and tidy, automatic updates, wishlist to keep an eye on games I like and buy them when they go on sale, friendlist to chat with friends and play co-op or multi-player games with them). But a friend of mine had a lot of trouble with it, her laptop kept freezing when Steam updated. I guess it's a case-by-case situation.

If you like DMC-free games, I have some links that may interest you :)

Indie Royale - http://www.indieroyale.com/

Indie Gala V - http://www.indiegala.com/

Indie Face Kick: Be In The Game - http://bitg.gamingallthetime.com/producthome.php

Bundle In A Box: Adventure Bundle - http://www.bundle-in-a-box.com/

Groupees Bundle: Build A Bundle - http://groupees.com/bab

Aaaaaaand, best of all, the Humble Bundle! - http://www.humblebundle.com/

I strongly recommend you get LIMBO and Bastion, they are truly great games :D

In any case, I suggest you bookmark those links. The bundles change with time (the Humble Bundle gets new games once ever 1-2 months, Indie Royale every 2-3 weeks), so even if you don't like the current batch you may like the next. Sometimes the games are crap, but occasionally you can get some real gems (for example, one of the past Indie Royale bundles had The Blackwell Trilogy plus 3 other games for $3. And, again, LIMBO and Bastion).

I do enjoy Steam and the services it provides, but it's just getting a bit bloated for my laptop. It might be the number of games I have on there, though. When any of my Steam games update things get painfully slow. Dungeon Defenders is particularly evil for this. I'm about ready to uninstall it just because it seems to update every single time I sign on.

Thanks for the Indie links! I've known about the bundles for some time, but I usually end up getting the games I want via Steam sales (before the bundles are released, sob. I have bad timing). I've already snagged LIMBO and Bastion, although I still need to finish the first and actually start the latter.

If you regularly use Steam, how about we friend each other there too? It could be fun to chat once in a while :)

Sounds good to me! I'm "fluted" on Steam.

I don't go online very often, but I'm sure to be on every once in a while. Feel free to contact me! o/
